Earlier this month, I crossed an item off my ’30 before 30′ list and took an amazing ski trip to Canada!
From the moment my college friends and I booked it, I knew it was going to be one of the best winter getaways ever. I’ve skied in Denver, Salt Lake City and Jackson Hole, but the thought of skiing in our neighboring country excited me so much.
We flew into Vancouver and got cheap, roundtrip Greyhound bus tickets to and from Whistler. The drive out there was truly stunning, and set up the scene for the rest of the vacation.
Whistler Blackcomb is such a beautiful ski resort. As most are, but there was something unique about these mountains. The runs were remarkably long, and the options for ski lifts were plentiful. It was by far the biggest mountain I’ve had the pleasure to ski on!
The group and I bought a 3 day lift ticket to try to cover as much of the mountain as possible – but this was a hard task! And we kept finding fun runs that we liked to do 2 or 3 times in a row. I guess that means I’ll just have to go back. Bummer!
Since the runs were so long, I often got tired and would stop in the middle of the hill for photo opps. I’m so glad I did, because now I can share with you ‘Scenes From Whistler Blackcomb.’ Hope you enjoy!
Scenes Highlighting the 2010 Olympics
How cool is it that we got to ski on the same mountain as Olympians! Every time I saw those Olympic Rings, I was reminded of how lucky we were. I can definitely see why Vancouver was chosen as the host for the 2010 Olympics – this mountain was massive!
Scenes From the One & Only Bluebird Day
On the third and final day, blue skies and sunshine finally graced us with their presence. I was SO happy to be able to see the mountain tops that had been hiding in the clouds and fog the first two days. We got the best of both worlds – lots of snow and then some sunshine!
Scenes From the Awesomely Scary Gondola Ride
Another amazing feature of Whistler Blackcomb is the Gondola that takes you from the peak to peak. Rightfully named ‘Peak 2 Peak Gondola,’ it holds the world records for longest free span between ropeway towers and highest point above ground at almost 1,500 feet! What a crazy ride.
Scenes of the Signage
One of my favorite thing to take pictures of while on the mountain was the names of the runs and ski chair names. How fun would it be to be in charge of naming them?! Also… I just love the way they look when they get lightly dusted in snow.
Scenes of Us – The People!
Hey, we’re just as pretty as the mountain scenes, right? Our group was able get a few fellow skiers to take some pictures of us amongst the gorgeous backdrops. It’s a good thing you can’t really see our faces – you don’t know how tired we were! And let’s not forget about the end of the day drinks at the base of the mountain. Always such a treat after a long day.
So there ya have it! My favorite scenes from Whistler Blackcomb. It’s equally as fun as it is beautiful. If you’re looking for a Winter ski trip, definitely check out Whistler Blackcomb. It was one of my most favorite ski towns and mountain!
