I have to hand it to myself – 2016 was filled with many fun adventures. My little weekend getaway-ing self hit up about 15 different cities throughout the US and 4 different countries this past year. I love to travel, and as I’m looking back at the experiences I had in 2016, I can’t help but feel so lucky. And wonder how 2017 is going to top it!
Let’s take a look back at my travel year in review…
Same Place, Multiple Visits
I went to a few cities multiple times. I traveled back to Cincinnati for long weekends 7 times this calendar year (have to keep mom happy). I took a road trip to southwest Michigan 3 times. I flew into Columbus twice. All for great company.
My work trips took me all over in 2016, and I don’t hate that one bit. I started off January in Vegas. I was in Salt Lake City the next month. In April, I went to California for the first time and met many amazing bloggers in beautiful Dana Point. I took the quickest trip ever to Boston in June. In July, I found myself in Santa Fe for the first time (which may have been my favorite)! I ended the Summer with an annual trip to New York City. Lastly, I went to Disney World in October. Can you see why I don’t mind travelling for work?
I love visiting my hometown of Cincinnati, seeing what Michigan has to offer and hanging out with my best friends in Columbus. But my longer, more adventurous trips I took on my own included Denver in April and Napa Valley in June. You can’t beat the views and awesome times those two destinations have to offer. But, I still have one more flight to catch in 2016! I’m heading to Nashville for New Years Eve with some very close friends. And of course, when I was actually in Chicago for a weekend, I was having a blast being a tourist in my own city. I went to many street festivals, partied too hard on St. Patty’s Day, watched the Cubs win the World Series and ate all the food.
And now for the grand finale of 2016 – my international trips. I booked a last minute trip to Cancun to see my bestie on Isla Mujeres in August. And I’m sure you read all about my 3 days spent in London and my ultimate Ireland road trip. We also took a day trip to Northern Ireland while we were out there. I feel so lucky to have experienced such wonderful countries and breathtaking landscapes.
Now let’s chat 2017. Honestly, I don’t have as many plans set in stone as I did when I wrote this post in December 2015 for 2016. But that’s okay! I’m going to go with the flow this year. I have some HUGE tentative plans for the end of the year, but I’ll discuss that if/when it happens.
For now, this is what I got for 2017…
First and foremost, I’m super excited to get away from the Winter cold in Chicago and head to Phoenix at the end of January for work. I’ve never been to Arizona!
In February, I’m heading to Indiana for a good friend’s wedding. The only wedding on my 2017 agenda so far. Crazy, considering the last couple years, I had at least 4 or 5 weddings to attend.
I have big plans for March. My flights and accommodations are already booked for a Whistler ski trip! I’m so pumped to also see Vancouver and experience Canadian skiing. I’ll be gone for 6 days for this one.
In April, I’m going back to Denver, but this time – for work. I’m hoping to stay a couple extra days out there with a friend and go skiing again (if the weather allows it)!
Another work trip brings me to Richmond, VA in May. Another new place I’ve never experienced.
After that, everything is up in the air! Like I said, I’m going with the flow. I may have some major plans for year end, but we’ll see how the beginning of 2017 plays out. I have good hopes for it!
